I have the honor of submitting for your impartial examination the following details.
The late Auditor General, Mr. Shelley, demanded of me (vide Enclosure A) £19-17-6, as still due on the quarter ending June 1844. Since this account was however fully settled (vide Enclosure C) and, it was moreover, by special receipt (vide Enclosure D) from the late Commissary General Martin proved, that the balance of £10-1-8½, arising from the £79-17, on which Mr. Shelley's demand was founded, had already been paid, I asked for explanation, with the promise to repay instantly the above sum, if it could be shewn that I still owed the money.
None was however given, nor was I ever informed why the Enclosure £21-9 (vide Enclosure A) advanced by the Deputy Commissary General Mr. Coffin, and acknowledged by me, was not credited.
